No way yet of installing the English firmware, someone has to work out what the differences are between the 2 softwares first, I wouldn't know where to begin with that.

Plus one on hoping someone comes up with an English firmware for the Chinese Q5. I got mine before I was aware that there was an English one available and have no luck in installing any other firmware other than HiMedia's own newer Chinese version. The Q4 4D plays everything fine but I would love to get a custom firmware on t similar to this one mentioned on the Futeko Forum (

I've tried numerous variations on naming,etc. but it won't boot.......
When I had the Chinese version initially, it wouldn't take the firmware Futeko posted at all, not even the ATMOS patch. There's even a different HiMedia wrapper version. So the hardware (or at least SDK) probably varies a bit. The new Chinese firmware for 1.0.8 does support ATMOS however w/o need for a patch.

I Think the new Himedia H7 is chip is made by RockChip.
It's a
new CPU by Rockchip. Based on 3288, I'm not so confident, but hopefully HiMedia chose them for a good reason.
The Himedia player they showed is not gigabit or I saw it wrong?

I updated to 1.08 via the Baidu website, you have to install the Baidu download manager first and then it's pretty straightforward (Google translate is my friend!). Some improvements but still the same launcher.
I'm crossing fingers that someone figures out the differences between the boxes so I can install a custom firmware....
Update: The German forum says there's a 1.09 firware being released by HiMedia tomorrow, May 14th.

Who/where did you order from?
If it was NIKINGSTORE, I would've expected they sent you the English version. I bought off niking-niking on eBay, which I think is the same seller and got the English version. Only way to be certain you'll get the English version is Futeko, but as they ship from UK, it's about $30 more.
