If you had the problem, I'm sure you would have noticed it. I believe the problem to be specific to HiMedia's custom external player on the Q5 so I am not surprised it played well on your Tronsmart Orion R68. Odd that Kodi played it full screen though since it is a 4:3 clip. The Tronsmart Orion R68 is an interesting box. Can it do lossless audio, Atmos, and 3D ISO? The hardware specs are impressive. If it could do everything, I would go to it in a heartbeat. I'm really hooked on Kodi now so I guess I should add that whatever I end up with must allow me to use the Kodi UI.
Kodi 16 has some very nice additions. Not sure if you have already seen my videos of my R68, but here is my link if interested.

a lot of app only with mx player and kodi(dvdplayer) not work, i think not work with kodi because the option is
hide on audio menu setting.
file MUST be local,NOT net shader folder or try
this. because a lot of andorid app read only local file.
i have set Imprex Processing Engine to split screen ... and... also android app use it... :o
with kodi(DVDplayer) NO work... WHY? >
:'(
no Imprex Processing Engine

Look forward to your "3D ISO of the above test patterns so we can verify we are getting full 1080p out of 3D ISO files". I don't have any 4K yet, but not surprised Q5 isn't supporting it ideally. I'm guessing 4K will be better on H8 (or Zidoo's X6 Pro), but what's unknown is how well, and whether 23.976 is supported properly.
I am disappointed to report back that my testing with the 3D resolution patterns was inconclusive. I have a Sony 4K passive 3D set. In theory, I should be able to see 1080p from each eye but either my display or the Q5 must be doing something to the 3D picture so the test failed. I suspect my display. When I switch the output of the Q5 to 1080p 60Hz (which is a 2D mode), the left-eye pattern worked fine. I first did black/white patterns for both left/right-eye streams but then switched to green for left and red for right-eye streams to see if I could tell what was going on. I'm sure my display thinks it is helping me by making my picture look "better".
If there is interest in the 3D patterns in ISO format, I will upload them. It may be nice for someone with a 1080p active shutter display to try them.
Hmm, this is unexpected and quite cool... wonder why HiMedia have not done this themselves with M3, Q5 and Q10?!
I dont understand, what are you saying?
Another Zidoo X6 Pro... 3D ISO and HD audio playback within custom Kodi in Gecko. Using Hisilicon player like HiMedia is doing with M3, but not as an external player, but coded to use from within Kodi.
Ah, but i dont trust the company lol
Yep, that's the biggest issue with Syabas/Cloud Media, not to mention a rude support forum.

i think because:
- in china not use Kodi ,there a lot of fork: XHMC ecc
- himedia have a lot of box wrapper is more easy and stable way for no-china market
. and others
