Are they better to use for VDR users?

No idea, wanted vdr for maverick so kept googleing around.
also found this ppa which doesn't have xbmc so would be better to use than the other one i found.

Are they better?, unless there is an official vdr ppa with maverick not much choice and using random ppa's is a potential risk.

shame yavdr repos only do karmic and lucid.

I've just been using the yaVDR repos but just renaming them to maverick in sources, not the best option. I think I'll give some that are specific to maverick a go since my TV server had a major crash last night and will no doubt need a fresh ubuntu install.
the PPA from my signature has builds for Karmic, Lucid and Maverick and it's about the closest thing you'll get to "official ppa". There won't be any official builds because the code simply is not in mainline XBMC yet.

@ant_thomas:
simply renaming it won't work for various reason. why do you need maverick on a tv server anyway?

It had worked, I was just renaming the yaVDR repo in the source list.

I wanted to use Maverick because Lucid didn't have the drivers for my DVB-S2 cards, saved me compiling them.
Hi,

I,am a little bit new with dvb cards and cams..
But, must i installed a softcam or cccam or what ever how thats calls to get my canaaldigitaal channels on screen?

I used a internal pci/firewire firedtv-s2 card and a original smartcard from canaal digitaal, but i see only the fta channels..

(i,am already days bussy with this, and it not works.. grrrr

is it also possible you could have vdr in your ppa too?
you can just install vdr from another ppa. no need to add it to my ppa.
trying to install vdr-plugin-epgsearch but dpkg says it needs vdr-abi-1.6.0-debian.

its a virtual package, does anyone have a compatible deb for epgsearch?

This isn't really the place to ask about that.

You'll be wanting to find a forum that specialises in using smartcards with linux and VDR. Eurocardsharing is a good start.

But basically I think you might need CCcam, vdr-plugin-sc
ant_thomas Wrote:This isn't really the place to ask about that.

I Know, but because the install is different from all other vdr install dir locations i asked here.
I have now CCcam running (i think..)

But know i get this error:
PHP Code:
Feb  5 17:39:53 (nonerunvdrstopping after fatal fail (scinvalid option -- 's')
Feb  5 17:40:02 (noneCCcamcapmt_ca.so for camd clients
Feb  5 17
:40:02 (noneCCcamca.so fopen /proc/cpuinfo mapped to /tmp/cpuinfo

A howto get SC and CCcam would be great with this vdr install..
Hey everyone.

Thanks for the awesome instructions. I've successfully installed VDR and the streamdev server/client on Ubuntu 10.10.

I had a few issues using the original repository but eventually found this one which worked first time -> https://launchpad.net/~surkov-alex/+archive/test9

One thing I don't understand is how to get my satellite subscription card working. I've installed vdr-plugin-opensc and configured the cardclient.conf file but that's as far as I can get. Could someone please point me in the right direction to get my subscription working in VDR or this will be a pointless excercise.

I understand that softcams are illegal in some countries but I have a legitimate paid for card which I currently use in my VU+ Duo receiver. I'm hoping to swap out my Vu for an XBMC/PVR powerhouse.

Thanks so much
Use Google to find your answer. As you said yourself, softcams are illegal in a lot of countries, so we're not going to discuss that here if that get others into trouble.

Google unfortunately doesn't have ANY information on the opensc plugin but I have found an older VDR/SC thread on another forum that might be able to assist me. Thanks anyway.

Question regarding VDR channel zapping times. I'm using tvheadend currently because of its built in SC functionality but find channel zapping to be quite slow - 4 seconds or more. The VDR video demos I've seen on youtube show less than a second zapping times. What is everyone else experiencing using the VDR/XBMC plugin, HD versus SD?

Thanks

I got also big problems, after all it seems that the card that i used not fulley supported by linux. (I used a firedtv card, IC module dont work)
Please first check on the wiki page from linux tv iff your card and IC is supported, if not you now what to do..

I have the Turbosat 6981 Dual tuner PCIe card which works perfectly on Ubuntu 10.10.
