Thanx, I must say that I use the PVRINPUT and ANALOGTV plugin for PAL analog signals: http://telewizor.eu/cyfrowa.html on a Hauppauge PVR MCe-150.

I had to change my "SCAN timeout to channel playback to 15sec" and VDR started, and only on the latest build. Build pvr-testing-17~hep-karmic25817 did not work for me, nor the Win32 pvr build 25645.

Have you consider using mythbox plugin or mythtv// feeds for now, It works great with the current XBMC builds?Big Grin
Hi everybody,

I'm just registered on this board but it's all-ready a couple of days that I'm visiting it to find tips and tricks for configuring my XBMC.

First of all I want to thank the people who made this wonderful piece software!!! Really a great job!

Now my problem: since a couple of days I'm trying to get my tv working on my XBMC following the tutorial at the beginning of this thread. I've got all my channels scanned (DVB-t) and my dvr is working. I can also watch tv with Kaffeine (tested to make sure that drivers etc are installed like they have to be).
I can also select tv in XBMC and I can see a channel list.
The problem is when I try to select a channel, XBMC gives me the error: channel can not be played.
I already did a lot of searches but couldn't find someone with the same problem. I've been looking in the logfile too, and this are the errors that I can find:

Code:
12:39:11 T:3078571920 M:2727456768   DEBUG: Loading: libcurl.so.4

Why has the folder /.xbmc/addons/pvr not been made when installing?

I also found something else that I think is something linked to previous error:

Code:
12:39:22 T:3078571920 M:2712866816   ERROR: GetDirectory - Error getting ?
12:39:22 T:3078571920 M:2712866816   ERROR: CGUIMediaWindow::GetDirectory(?) failed

and these are the errors while selecting a channel:

I think all these errors are a result of the fact that the folder " /.xbmc/addons/pvr" isn't there. So can anyone help me by telling me by who this folder should be created, and what should be in these folder?

Thank you very much for the help!
Hi

I have quite similar problem. I've already posted but for now without an answer.
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...vr-testing

Try to tune XBMC to the same channel that VDR is switch to. You can change VDR channel with "svdrpsend "CHAN x" (x- number in channels.conf). Than I was able to see the program on XBMC.

Thanx Janusz, I tried it bt it doesn't work for me. I thn get these errors:
Code:
hatim@mediacenter:~$ svdrpsend CHAN 1
220 mediacenter SVDRP VideoDiskRecorder 1.7.10; Sun Jan  3 18:01:13 2010; UTF-8
554 Error switching to channel "1"
221 mediacenter closing connection
hatim@mediacenter:~$ svdrpsend CHAN 2
220 mediacenter SVDRP VideoDiskRecorder 1.7.10; Sun Jan  3 18:01:47 2010; UTF-8
554 Error switching to channel "2"
221 mediacenter closing connection

Maybe that someone can post what he has in the folder /.xbmc/addons/pvr ?

edit: I did a fresh install (again) with the same result!!! :-( Maybe it has to do with the frontend? By default I think frontend 0 is used, but my dvb-t tuner is on frontend 1. Can I configure this somewhere in XBMC?
H

Looks like you don't have channels.conf or no acceptable channel in the list. Maybe try to check first if VDR is working properly.
BTW in home dir ~/.xbmc/ I don't have addons subdir. It exists in /usr/share/xbmc.
There is VDR folder and in it: description.xml, vdr.tbn, XBMC_VDR.pvr and resoureces folder.

thanx for your help, but I found a solution!!! :-D It has nothing to do with no acceptable channels, because I ve been able to scan the channels. And to scan my channels I had to change the frontend in the scan-option.

By default, when XBMC starts, dvr uses frontend0. But frontend0 is the DVB-s in my case and frontend1 the dvb-t. so what I have done is that I renamed frontend1 to frontend0 (in /dev/dvb/adapter0) and then it worked! But when I reboot, the files are renamed again... So I made a startup script that will rename those files each time I reboot, and it works!!!

And that for someone who just started working with Linux Big Grin
Hi,

I wanted to let you know that there were some issues with VDPAU not being active with my XBMC builds over the last few days. The issue seems to be that a current version of libvdpau (0.2) is now expected due to changes in the XBMC trunk code (ffmpeg). Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Simply speaking, this means you have to use Nvidia drivers 195 from one or anther Launchpad PPA.

libvdpau is now independent from the Nvidia driver which may be confusing for some people since it is not neatly packed in seperate packets in karmic, but will be for lucid.

Using the latest XBMC-PVR-Testing2 packages in my PPA together with 195-Nvidia-drivers, VDPAU should work again.

Cheers,
hepi
Just installed, but have hit upon a couple of errors.

firstly the guide on the first page says to install dvb-utils, this was unavailable, but dvb-apps works the same.

when I come to scan for channels using

Quote:scan -x 0 -o vdr -a 0 /usr/share/doc/dvb-utils/examples/scan/dvb-t/uk-RidgeHill > /etc/vdr/channels.conf

it fails to scan and gives me this error (note I have to change the /dvb-utils/ to /dvb-apps/):

Quote:scanning /usr/share/doc/dvb-utils/examples/scan/dvb-t/uk-RidgeHill using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0' main:2273: FATAL: failed to open '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0': 16 Device or resource busy

I dont have tvheadend installed so thats not conflicting with the tuner.

also. when I load up xbmc and select the Live TV option it takes me to the next menu but then it crashes xbmc within a couple of seconds.

try to stop vdr before scanning

Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/vdr stop
Kadafi69, thanks I will update the first post.

You should be able to see what's using the device by typing the following at the terminal;
lsof | grep /dev/dvb/adapter0
Quote:it fails to scan and gives me this error (note I have to change the /dvb-utils/ to /dvb-apps/):

you also have to point to:

Quote: scan -x 0 -o vdr -a 1 /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/uk-Lancaster

But this is were i get stuck, all i keep getting is tuning failed. Any IDeas?
Thanks for the info, first post updated with new paths.

As for scanning troubles can you give us a bit more info?
Which tv tuner are you using, have you had it working at all before?
Are you definatley within range of the 'Lancaster DVB-T' transmitter.. etc.

I presume it is actually attempting to try scanning each transponder and then times out with tuning failed ?
yeah using
Quote:sudo /etc/init.d/vdr stop
worked. I also followed what Waring192 said and replaced it with
Quote:scan -x 0 -o vdr -a 1 /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/uk-Sheffield

it scanned and i got a couple of timeouts.

Loaded up xbmc, and the channels are there, some a bit choppy, others fail to load properly.

no worries, supprised i managed to get that part working as im new to linux.

Yeah, i followed the v4l tutorial and got the modules all loaded and it detects the card, its a nova t500.

Yeah, i have been using windows 7 media center for the last few months but i really wanted to start using xbmc with the pvr plugin.

I have also tried winter hill etc but none work. Is it maybe a prob with the drivers?
Just a update, channels were found using w_scan.
I think using the
Quote: scan -x 0 -o vdr -a 0 /usr/share/dvb/dvb-t/uk-RidgeHill > /etc/vdr/channels.conf
might not work for all, so i would use w_scan if nothing if found in the examples.

Maybe include that in the tutorial?
