I checked last for new update last night and there was no new update.
I don't think there new update release yet,maybe they are waiting to fix 3D first

I have 2d movies ripped with MakeMKV with subs and wondering if this will play them fine.

That should be the standard way to review any device...so that people know what they are getting.
an interesting thought.. there were at least 8 other mfg's released their rk 3368 soc based devices and probably few have already forgotten their product in terms of development but because of developer community's interest in it, end users are still showing interest on those devices.
Hope Zidoo company as they are keen on building their reputation follow and work towards achieving those goals.
HiMedia's H8 has promise... they apparently have an update coming with 3D ISO & HD audio via Kodi (assuming custom like Zidoo's) w/o wrapper (like Q5 relies on).

Since the Himedia H8 is using the same chipset RK3368 as the Zidoo X6,Zidoo shouldn't be too far behind.
