ok good people of this forum. how do you get the wifi up and running, as in the network folder the wireless networks are active, but when you go to the connections tab nothing shows up. if i go to system- system info- summary ip address 1**.***.** shows up. when i go to the homescreen, there is a little symbol on the bottom right corner, a square with a dot and 2 curved bars pointing north east above it, what it it? when i click on it, it does nothing. this is version 4.2.1
(2014-11-21, 04:04)pie eater Wrote: [ -> ]hi matt. success, but a different way. i tried the disc image as you suggested, and when i unzip the disc image through 7 zip, it would only give the option of burn image to a disc. i deleted the file, and downloaded the the other generic x86 -64- version 4.2.1 instead. this was then unzipped with 7 zip and the file, create_ installstick (108kb), this was then double clicked and it starts an install wizard, once finished (about 1 minute) the stick was ejected.
the stick was then put into the chromebox and power up and escape within 5 seconds, selected the option for the stick and it loaded straight in.
i cant thank you enough for all your help, as im sure you have better things to do than puppy walking someone out of there depths.
I thought you said you had already done that, which is why I recommended the image method, but regardless glad you got it installed

the first time you ran OE, didn't it ask you to set up networking? If wireless networking is enabled, then the connections screen should show all available APs. If your IP is showing up under system info, what's the problem? The icon on the bottom right of the home screen is the RSS feed icon.
I have the Asus Chromebox and I have both Chromeos and Openelec working perfectly with the Dualboot. In a day, I must reboot often to both Chromeos and Openelec by pressing CTRL-D or CTRL-L. I have two K400 keyboards that don't work in the Developer Screen and therefore for now I must use a big standard keyboard to do the CTRL-D or CTRL-L and then I can use the K400 in either ChromeOS or Openelec.
Is there a compatibility list of Small Keyboards similar to the K400 that work in the Developer Screen? I have read that the Iogear GKM681R works but the K360 works for some but not others. Are there any other small keyboards that work? Does the Mele F10 or the RC11 work? Any other way of sending the CTRL-D or CTRL-L? The FLIRC doesn't work. Any way to make the IPhone send this? Any other way like switching the Default Boot OS such as running a small script on Openelec that will change the default Boot OS to ChromeOS and a small script on ChromeOS to change the default Boot OS to Openelec?
hi matt. i did try the first openelec, the non disc image first, your right, but i tried to install the full folder, and not just a file, thats were i went wrong.
as for wifi set up, i didnt notice it during the first run, but i have now connected it to either and its working good, and just needs a little fine tuning.
i think i should send you advil, instead of beer tokens. sorry for the stress.

I don't know that anyone has compiled a list of keyboards which work on the developer boot screen. Sending the keypresses via IR or any other means has not been successful so far; your iPhone is highly unlikely to do this. The only way to change the default OS is to change a firmware boot flag, and reading/flashing the firmware every time you want to reboot to a different OS is something you really don't want to be doing.
If you can live with ChromiumOS (vs ChromeOS), then setting it to dual boot with OE and using a Grub boot menu would probably be the easiest way to go, but that's a far more advanced topic.

Reading through various posts in this thread, I'm unsure how you pair the Hamony Remote/Hub (Bluetooth) with the Chromebox. I have BT enabled under OpenELEC settings.
Any Harmony Ultimate/Hub owners here that can advise? Do you program the Harmony/Hub to use PS3 remote as the device? Then, it just works? If pairing is needed, how does one do that? Thanks.
put the hub into pairing mode, it will show up in the BT device list on OE, select it and choose connect. No need to set it up as a PS3.
Thanks Matt. That worked... now the question is how do I add the device in MyHarmony software? Then, of course create activity and sync. Those I know how to do.
Trying as "Sony Playstation 3" for device; will report back...

think you can just add it as a PC, but not sure

So buy the $135 HP Chromebox and get $240 worth of drive space.
yep, def boot into/sign into ChromeOS and claim your free google drive space before doing anything else

You mean a generic MCE remote? PS3 as device didn't work as it instructs me to pair by starting pair mode on PS3. Just clicking buttons on PS3 device doesn't do anything.

no, from like 10 pages back:
(2014-11-12, 00:26)furii Wrote: [ -> ]this is correct except it is no longer necessary to program it as a ps3. as of a few versions ago logitech added the ability to control a pc over bluetooth. sadly the ability to add non-media keyboard buttons (abc, tab, etc.) to activities is still nonexistent but supposedly they are working on it. whenever you need something like that you can just pull up the soft keyboard in the app but it would be nice to be able to map them on the remote.
Thanks, I'll PM furii. Not sure how to do it.

It is, unfortunately, for the Chromebooks and not the Chromebox.
I hope Matt and others don't mind me asking here...
How does the Wi-Fi perform on these units (Would probably be an ASUS model), is it up to 1080p 3D streaming in 5GHz mode?
Talking of the ASUS range, is anything above the Celeron CPU overkill for KODI usage and is the M031U still the most current Celeron / 4GB model that comes with a keyboard and mouse?
