1) I mean the coreboot firmware installed by my script under the standalone menu heading. You can't use the standard OpenELEC installer with the stock firmware, only with my custom firmware, due to a compatibility issue with the syslinux 6.x bootlaoder. Since you've already done a standalone setup, you're running my firmware and need to do nothing else, just download/install OpenELEC.
2) the firmware (aka BIOS) and OpenELEC (OS + Kodi) are completely separate/indepenedent; my firmware allows you to run the standard x86_64 version of OpenELEC (or any other OS)

I was about to buy the Celeron Asus Chromebox but I guess I should wait a little unless they seriously lower the price of the current models. I'm gonna throw Kodibuntu inside and watch flash streams for at least 3-5 years with it.
The Acer model is available from Newegg currently for $119 AC, which is a pretty good deal. I'd expect $100-$120 to be the new norm for Haswell ChromeBoxes as Broadwell boxes are announced/released

for displayport i just select DP1 right? that is definitely selected. i don't get the output waviness issue that occurs randomly. i thought perhaps it could be a settings issue. the audio, that is only being outputted to one device and i have to go in and select/change the audio. with displayport all audio outputs work no problem for regular DTS/Dolby but it seems the displayport cable will not pass on and HD audio options, switch to hdmi and it is no problem.
the audio i can live with because my receiver upstairs doesn't support hd audio anyways, so i can use that with the DP adaptor and the hdmi output to downstairs. but the waviness on the picture that occurs randomly drives me nuts. i began to think it could be some type of interference with bad shielding on the adaptor or if there was a certain setting i may need to change.
i'm not even trying to output sound or video to both displays at once, one is always shut off when the other is in use.

I haven't used DP for audio and don't have a HDMI/HD audio capable receiver, so I can't speak to that unfortunately - sorry =(
ok, not sure why but for some reason the acceleration settings seem to be the problem. i am playing back full resolution mkv files ripped from bluray.
i had my video accelaration settings set to match the wiki, but if i turn everything off except use VC-1 vaapi my wavy lines go away.
i wonder if i should turn on any of the other acceleration selections or just keep vc-1 as the only one selected. no idea why this works or what my settings should actually be for best results.
EDIT - spoke too soon again. my goodness i'm ready to pull my hair out. the vc-1 only solution was working with hdmi only plugged in so i figured if i went back to displayport it would be gone as well. nope its there with displayport. i'm stumped. going to have to go downstairs and watch the same video clips and see if the waviness is down there as well.

Yes, set it to 'Enabled during video playback' as specified in the wiki and report back. Reset other settings you've changed back to the defaults/recommended values as well

i'm running dedicated openelec on the box. some of the setting screens i don't even have i assume they are for older versions of openelec maybe? i don't have the screen that starts with deinterlace video that i can see anywhere.

ahh...ok. didn't realize there were more video settings while the video was playing. yep make no difference after changing those.
there just must be something messed up when you use a displayport adaptor? i have no idea.
wow, ok i finally found a fix.
believe it or not, if you set the monitor display output to HDMI 1, even though you are outputting via Displayport - the problem is completely fixed.
i kept thinking why is the picture fine on hdmi and i for the first time i kept both displays on and could see even if you have no sound on the displayport display the video was exactly the same as what was happening downstairs. while the downstairs playback was totally fine, the upstairs was as while.
so, for displayport output to work all i need to do is keep it as hdmi 1 monitor all the time, but switch my audio out settings depending on where i am viewing.
i have no idea why this makes a difference but it does for my setup.

Could you detail how to extract the vpd from a running standalone bios and inject said vpd into an existing bios/firmware backup file? I want to convert from standalone to dual boot without losing my unique device information (that is vital to receive ChromeOS updates among other things?) I only created a backup bios for one of my 2 HPs, as the wiki didn't make it clear that there were unique device information embedded in the bios.
Edit: Oh and I guess I need to extract the GBB too, since that is where the HWID is located?

that's similar to what you'll need to do, but not the same. you don't need to restore the GBB, just the VPD. I'll PM you with instructions and update the wiki/OP with a note that user should always backup the firmware because of the embedded MAC.
