well if i decided just to install stand alone openelec how stable and how good does it run and do i need more then 2 gigs of ram?

I have yet another problem, if i may ask you once more

I am trying to setup my remote with this DVB-T Stick: http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Te..._Diversity
This one has an IR Receiver and is also an DVB-T tuner, which is quite nice and cheaper than buying a new IR receiver itself. Yet, both features, DVB-T tuner and the IR receiver do not work. It doesn't really bother me, that DVB-T doesn't work; that would just be the cherry on top; but i really would like to get the IR receiver going, or else i would need to spend yet another 10-15€.
Since i have a Logitech Harmony (model 555, quite old, but golden), there isn't even any problem using other IR codes. I think the problem is, that it my IR receiver doesn't even receive.

Drivers should be installed just fine

dmesg | grep -i dvb


The irw command doesn't read anything and there is of course no mapping in the /etc/lirc/ folder for that IR Receiver. I tried either the Terratec remote or the Harmony programmed for MCE devices and both do not work, nor receive anything. I also activated the addon in xbmc for MCE remotes.

Do you maybe have any clue how i could get this up and running?

2 gigs or ram is lots for running standalone. i am running 2 asus boxes in standalone. 1 on gotham, and the other on kodi, and they both boot and run smooth, but there is still an issue with the gpu causing a picture freeze, but i believe that the devs. are working on this. i replaced 2 gbox mx2 with chromeboxes, and i have no regrets, even though my first install was far from smooth, because i cocked it up.

I experienced terrible tearing in Netflix (Kodi video worked fine), and installed a compositor called Compton to fix it. Compton fixed tearing in Netflix, but triggered the "audio continues but video/Kodi is frozen until you kill -9 it" bug normally seen when you don't have prefer VAAPI rendering turned off. Disabling VAAPI entirely fixed it, but Compton was the root cause-- I killed Compton and the problem went away.

Still trying to figure out how to make Netflix watchable-- the tearing is really bad. But not at the cost of Kodi working or running in software mode. And I have a roku3 on that TV anyway, and the TV itself can run Netflix for that matter, so it's kind of a hobby/academic thing anyway.

TL;DR, Long story short, don't run Compton. If you found this post from a Google search, hi!

Has anyone had an issues using the DisplayPort on the Asus Chromebox in Openelec? I am trying to use a DisplayPort to HDMI cable for audio only, but I'm getting nowhere. I've hooked it up to both my TV and computer monitor and I can't get video or audio when it's connected. Does anyone have any possible fixes?

As I was just messing around with it some more, I realized that it does briefly give me a picture while it is booting up, but it goes off before I ever see the Openelec boot image. Any ideas?

While trying to install standalone Ubuntu I reached a point where the system ask me to choose one of the following options:
The computer currently has multiple OS on it. what would you like to do?
1) Erase disk and install Ubuntu
2) Encrypt the new Ubuntu ....
3) Use LVM with the new Ubuntu .....

something else
you can create or resize partitions ....

so, which one should I use assuming I would like to be able to recover chromeOS?

Hi I have my new asus chrome box sitting here in front of me and find i am in a bit of a quandary. I was all set for a stand alone openelec install but am now considering a stand alone Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with a 'boot straight into xbmc' setup so that i can when the need arises have a desktop which i seem to understand supports nexflix hd through chrome browser and Skype. I use Skype a lot, I'm also totally new to ubuntu is there downfalls to this approach

Install Ubuntu first, and then follow this guild. http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php?title=...multi_boot . It is a bit more complex, but once done, it works great! I have a SteamOS / OpenELEC ChromeBox, but I am soon to replace SteamOS with Xubuntu.

don't want to duel boot, was hoping what I outlined was a simpler solution.

Kodi can be installed inside of Ubuntu as well ( http://kodi.wiki/view/Installing_XBMC_for_Linux ), but the overhead of Ubuntu in the background maybe too much....but you will not know until you see it stutter or not as you watch media.

Do I need to install a separate app on the ChromeBox to enable SSH connection? I am using Putty and getting the message "Network Error: Connection Refused".

Before I get another Chromebox, this time a Acer CXI-2GKM, just want to check if anyone has this and run the script fine for OpeELEC standalone or dual? Noticed Acer has the Intel Celeron 2957U vs. 2955U on ASUS and HP. Assuming should be fine with either chip?
