Posting this (https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid2788156) here since it may get a full attention rather than opening new threads:

"Ever since upgrading to Anroid Oreo/Shield TV Experience v7, I am finding Kodi crashes whenever I do a voice search.

So I press the mic button on the remote
Speak the search phrase
Google Assistant lists all the sources for said TV Show or Movie. Kodi is included, along with Netflix, Google Play, etc. (So it does find the item in the Kodi database)
If I select Kodi from the Google Assistant search UI to go to that item, it tries to dive into Kodi to bring up the item, then Kodi crashes.
I am left back on the nvidia Shield TV home screen."

This is also happening to me.

I have EMBY server setup on a Synology NAS but for the desired effect, my KODI has the .db file like any other iteration/installation method. Since I use a plugin to sync EMBY server with it (with KODI).

Is this the expected behavior?
I know GA is not fully implemented yet but still.
Also I notice that it only works when I have KODI minimized (regarding the voice search). Cutomized channels actually work with KODI closed.
Is this the expected behavior as well?

"kodi is not installed or can't be searched" happens alot when I say "open X (movie name) on KODI". but if I say "watch" instead of "play" it actually tries to open KODI (but crashes as well).
Yeah I'm in the same situation with voice search crashing Kodi ever since Shield Experience 7

Here is my debug log if someone could please help

This may be of some interest to Shield owners. According to an nVidia employee over on their forums, they are working on improving the scaler, as well as adding on-the-fly changes for SDR/HDR and frame rates in a future release. They made it sound like it would be done in a way that is universal to all apps, not just an optional API. No word on when we may see it, but just the fact that they recognize these are areas that need to be improved, and aren't waiting around for Google to get off its ass and fix it, is promising.

I have been trying to get kodi v18 to work on my shield but had no luck. I see that some members here have it working. Do you mind share how you did it?

I have tried one of the v18 alphas (Not sure which one it was a while ago) beta 4 and nightly. I have also tried installing v17 and then updating to v18 with the kodi update addon. All do the same thing.
On first load it shows the kodi 18 setup. Once the progress bar completes it force closes. After that when ever I try to launch kodi it immediately force closes. If I wipe app data it will show the setup again but the issue repeats.

Am I missing something? IS there something special I have to do to get v18 to work on my shield? I'm really looking forward to the new v18 androidTV integrations.

I have been using kodi 18 nightlies for months without any major hiccups
Can you try changing the Nvidia shield resolution to 1920 @60 before installing the latest Kodi nightly
I don't see anything odd in your log apart from Kodi being set to.

So the tv I have in my livingroom is an old temporary tv that is max 720p. (Plasma bit the dust, waiting on the Nvidia BFGD tv) so I couldn't change that on this one. I did however move the shield to the bedroom tv and was able to install kodi 18 and it worked! I manually set res in kodi to 720p and moved shield back in living room and it's still working! So thanks @DNKK !!! I probably wouldn't have even tried that without your comment. Smile
I too have same problem, on a 720p plasma tv. Shield does not allow me to change resolution to anything but 1280x720 (either 60Hz or 59.940 HZ)
Is there a way to change the res in Kodi?
If someone can tell me how many clicks to the right etc, as I would be doing it blind lol

Can you connect to the device via adb? If so:

- adb logcat -c (clears the log)
- start kodi
- adb logcat -d | pastebinit
- provide the paste URL here
- thx

This seems like a bug in the new whitelist resolution system you guys should submit it for the developers of kodi on github.

Try another colorspace setting in Android GUI, one where you have more modes listed in filter section.

@DNKK  setting resolutions / refreshrates has nothing to do with whitelist. whitelist only lists modes where kodi is allowed to switch to when playing video.

Oh I get that. But the whitelist is the place kodi shows the available resolutions it detects through android. It seems on older plasma tv's the detection is not working properly as both of them have similar problem where kodi is not opening to the resolutions available for the gui. Where as it works for Kodi 17.6

If the TV really supports more resolutions, it's an android / nvidia / OREO issue, this is what is reported from Android API:

17:03:01.778 T:140418987248 DEBUG: CAndroidUtils: current mode: 1: [email protected]
17:03:01.778 T:140418987248 DEBUG: CAndroidUtils: available mode: 1: [email protected]
17:03:01.779 T:140418987248 DEBUG: CAndroidUtils: available mode: 2: [email protected]

Edit: Can you select in Android GUI from more resolutions?
But again, play around with the android colorspace settings to maybe enable more selectable resolutions.
Hello guys I need help Smile  I look for good player support HDR
I thought that official Kodi 17 support HDR
but I think not ! , I use (SPMC 16.7-04) to play HDR It is not very good  but I don't have choice ,  sadly support stopped The developer (koying) moved to MrMc
But MrMc support HDR in SHIELD like SPMC ?

Kodi should support HDR just fine. SPMC was based on Kodi v16, and Kodi v18 is getting ever closer to release. However, there's a "Lite" version of MrMC you can download. It limits you to something like 7 items in a listing, but otherwise is fully functional and you could test it with some HDR videos. If it works, you can buy the full version.
Dear kodi experts, one random annoyance I have (and I am really nitpicky right now, I know) with my shield is that every time I launch/wakeup my shield tv from standby it does show me the native leanback google launcher (home screen) and every time I need to select kodi over and over again (kodi is the only app I use and all other shield youtube/netflix apps are anyhow already in my custom menu shortcuts in kodi). Is there a way to setup kodi as the default launcher replacement? Thanks a lot in advance Smile
