I appreciate the suggestion blackreign66, but that was one of the first solutions I employed years ago and I was eventually put off with it and chose to use the integrated Kodi DSPlayer instead. I was extremely happy with that option, but wanted to try upgrading. I may need to go back.
From what I've been able to find over the years as I continually researched ways to improve my DSPlayer experience, I don't think there is a solution available for me to use Leia with a native HQ player. I think currently my only real solution is to either return to Kodi 17.6, learn the best settings for what Leia provides, or to use an external player, and I really want to avoid an external player.
I probably misunderstood curael's post, but I took it to mean that he had a potential solution for a DSPlayer like experience with Leia. That's probably not going to happen in the short term.
Oh trust me I know. I was in the same dilemma weighing the pros and cons on switching from 17.6 Dsplayer to Kodi 18. I've used and enjoyed Dsplayer for so long and didn't want to lose its functionality. I just hope one day somebody picks up the reigns and makes an 18 Dsplayer. When that day comes I will most definitely switch back.
Is it possible to update KodiDSPlayers internal LAV Filters? Or what do I have to setup to make DS Player using my external newer LAV Filters?
I want to do a clean install of my htpc within the next couple days. Any suggestions which is the best (stable) OS for a new install? had latest windows 10 1809 but had random freezes with dsplayer and madvr/lav filters.
I use an amd rx 56 Vega, 8GB

Don't know about updating the internal LAV Filters but you surely can use external LAV.
Under Settings/Player/DSPlayer you go to the Filters section and set Flters Management to Media Rules and Filters.
You then add the new LAV Filters using the Filters Configuration menu entry and setup a good set of rules using Media Rules.
Alternatively, you can try using, as a starting point, this for
filtersconfig.xml (needs to be placed in C:\Users\
yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\userdata\dsplayer):
xml:
<filtersconfig>
<filters>
<filter name="lavsource" type="source">
<guid>{B98D13E7-55DB-4385-A33D-09FD1BA26338}</guid>
<osdname>LAV Source</osdname>
</filter>
<filter name="lavsplitter" type="splitter">
<guid>{171252A0-8820-4AFE-9DF8-5C92B2D66B04}</guid>
<osdname>LAV Splitter</osdname>
</filter>
<filter name="lavvideo" type="videodec">
<guid>{EE30215D-164F-4A92-A4EB-9D4C13390F9F}</guid>
<osdname>LAV Video</osdname>
</filter>
<filter name="lavaudio" type="audiodec">
<guid>{E8E73B6B-4CB3-44A4-BE99-4F7BCB96E491}</guid>
<osdname>LAV Audio</osdname>
</filter>
<!-- Subtitle Filter -->
<filter name="xysubfilter" type="subs">
<osdname>XySubFilter</osdname>
<guid>{2DFCB782-EC20-4A7C-B530-4577ADB33F21}</guid>
</filter>
</filters>
</filtersconfig>
And this for
mediasconfig.xml (to be placed in the same directory as the previous file):
xml:
<mediasconfig>
<rules>
<rule priority="" name="GeneralFiles" filetypes="mkv|avi|divx|ogm|mp4|mov|m4v|flv|m2v|mpeg|mpg|vob|mts|m2ts|ts|bdmv">
<source filter="lavsource" />
<splitter filter="lavsplitter" />
<video filter="lavvideo" />
<audio filter="lavaudio" />
<subs filter="xysubfilter" />
</rule>
</rules>
</mediasconfig>
You still need to have Flters Management set to Media Rules and Filters, as explained above (which then picks up the two files from your userdata\dsplayer directory).
you can manually replace the LAV filter from the folder, I did it, much simpler and faster method.
There are instructions in the DSPlayer guide. A pre-configured filter pack is included to simply use external filters already installed in Windows and there are instructions in the filters section on how to update the internal LAV Filters:

Ok, thank you! Nice guide, well done!
The path is like this. C:\Kodi\system\players\dsplayer\LAVFilters depending of course where you installed kodi. if you installed 32 bit dsplayer then copy the 32 bit lavfilters to it. Same goes for 64 bit. Direct drop and go replacement and everything works fine.
Personally, I'll live without Leia if that means getting to keep DSplayer integration. Logitech Harmony control is imperative. And the Kodi implementation Harmony supports makes it a breeze. External players on top of Kodi is way too jank and clunky for me. I like this seamless integration too much to give it up.

+1 - thank god it still works, and DS is incredibly stable now with an AMD card, their drivers haven't broken anything in ages, i've got to the stage where i'm happy to upgrade every time a new driver comes out without any worries at all.
guys, I'm sorry to put this in here, but I couldn't post on doom9 forums for 5 days. Anyways, I have a 1660 ti xc black edition and hdr gives me jitters every few seconds when trying to watch any movie. My 1050 did better than this card and it is really annoying me. Please Halp! Sorry for hijacking the thread. Just hoping someone would be able to help me here.

I disabled it, but it's still doing it.
It even does it when I don't have it in full screen
