And onother silly question. Why does Advanced Launcher always ask for a fanpic/thumbnail directory? What does it mean? Either to put all fanpics in that folder or choose a folder as resource for pics? I my option this is useless.

Asked thumbs and fanarts folders, during launcher creation will be used to store downloaded images from scraper and could ALSO be used as resources.
If you use an XBMC add-on like WatchDog that will automatically delete all the thumb/fanart images from the cache that are not into the XBMC video library, you will be happy to have them saved somewhere else on your system. If you want to change your HTPC system or duplicate XBMC on a different system and have a 20.000 roms collection, you will be happy to not have to rescrap anything from the start. If your already have some thumb/fanart roms images sets, you will be happy to use them with Advanced Launcher.
So... YOU may not have interest to use/save thumbs and fanarts images on your system, but other users may have one.

with script:
Code:
#!/bin/bash
killall -STOP xbmc.bin
openbox &
/usr/games/scummvm
killall -9 openbox
killall -CONT xbmc.bin
Are you sure openbox is installed on your system? According to your screenshot, XBMC is windowed, but I did not see any windows top bar controls that must appears if XBMC is started under openbox.
Screenshot was taken while xbmc was run under lxde. If i run openbox under lxterminal i got:
Openbox-Message: Window manager is already run on display0
This is my translation becouse i use polish locale. Have to switch back to US. OK. LXDE desktop enivornment i working on top of OpenBox window manager.
The script is only for when you are running XBMC into standalone mode. Normally you will not need it when running XBMC under LXDE. Does increasing the launcher delay or force XBMC to minimize give you positive results?
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1543085
If you still have problem use the kill scripté
Tried everything including kill. Always the same. Using LXDE, starting XBMC from console, using xbmc-standalone etc. I give up, spent few hours to make it work and failed. Delay 10 000 did nothing. It looks like rPi operates GPU in different way and won't clear screen for some reason. Maybe build is somehow broken. How ever i can't use OpenElec becouse it doesn't let me install vice or scummvm.

How it could be the same? Killing XBMC MUST kill it, no?

I first noticed this today. I'm running Frodo 12.2.
Due to the fact that the last version of Advanced Launcher has removed the MobyGames scappers, if your Advanced Launcher settings was set to use the MobyGames scrapper, you could have an error. Close XBMC, try to rename or delete the xbmc/userdata/addon_data/plugin.program.advanced.launcher/settings.xml file then restart XBMC. The problem would must be fixed.
Aha! That did the trick! Thanks!

Yes, the process is killed. But .... screen is not refreshed somehow - so the window is still visible.
Version 2.0.15 : This new version of Advanced Launcher update de German translation. Thank you to mbroemme who made this translation update.
Changelog :- Update German translation (thanks to mbroemme).
If I highlight Advanced Launcher and press c I do not get an option to create a new launcher. If I select and hit enter I get a working dialog and then a error that it cannot connect to the network server. The only thing I see in the log is the following 2 lines:
Code:
02:02:33 T:3038504704 ERROR: GetDirectory - Error getting plugin://plugin.program.advanced.launcher/
02:02:33 T:3038504704 ERROR: CGUIMediaWindow::GetDirectory(plugin://plugin.program.advanced.launcher/) failed
Anyone with thoughts?

Highlighting Advanced Launcher an press "C" do not give options for launcher creation. This is normal. You must enter into Advanced Launcher to be able to create a launcher. Advanced Launcher do not need any network server connection when just launched. Network connection is only needed during scraping. The rest of the time, all is done locally. So... that's a strange error message.
Which version of Advanced Launcher are you using?
Which version of XBMC are you using?
Which skin and skin version are you using?
Advanced Launcher 2.0.15
Started with fresh XBMCbuntu 12.00 beta1 repack install due to ATI x1250 graphics card seemed to be the only one that worked. Upgraded all the packages through synaptic so it is running 13.0-Alpha9 now.
Confluence (default one)

As your network server error is directly linked to XBMC and not to Advanced Launcher, I think the problem is linked to the version of XBMC you are actually using. I'm actually on 13.0-Alpha10, I do not have any error. Maybe it will be more safe for you to use the 12.2 stable version of XBMC.

First you need to create Internet shortcuts (.url files) that will point to the right application url. For the credits, the description how to proceed come from this website : http://www.itsjustwhatever.com/2012/10/2...mand-line/
1. Found a Windows 8 Metro application URL :- Press the windows key and x to pull up the new admin menu.
- Choose run.
- Type in regedit and press enter.
- Open the HKEY_CURRENT_USER folder, then > Software > Classes > Extensions > Contractld > Windows.Protocol > Packageld.
- You should find a list of many of the installed apps here. To get the app URL, open the folder structure you want until you get to CustomProperties folder.
- In that folder you should see a registry entry on the right side of the screen that says Name and then to the right of that is the particular application URL you will need to use.
Here is an example for the Pinball FX2 game. The application URL is : xboxliveapp-1297290209.
2. Create the internet shortcut files :
- Go back to the Windows desktop and right click on it.
- Select New > Shortcut.
- Enter the application URL where it asks for the location and press next.
- Enter the Application name you want displayed in your shortcut and press finish. A .url file will be created (the file extension may be not visible).
Here is an example with the previous Pinball FX2 game application URL.
Do the same for all the Windows 8 applications you want to start from XBMC and put all the created shortcut files into the same directory.
3. Setup Advanced Launcher :
- Create a File launcher.
- Select C:\Windows\explorer.exe as application.
- Define "%rom%" as arguments.
- Set url as file extension.
- Then point the folder (containing all the created shortcut files) as item folder.
Once the launcher is created, perform a "scan new items" to add the Metro Applications into Advanced Launcher.
Actually this method works great on my system to start Metro Application (but not for all the applications). To close and application an return to XBMC you just have to use the ALT+ESC keys combination.
Hi Angelscry,
Just trying to work out how to launch Windows 8 metro apps (mainly Angry Birds) using the above guide you posted and i'm getting stumped at the first part - I located the url name in regedit but when I create a new shortcut and put the url into the shortcut location, it comes up with "file cannot be found"
I've tried a few different apps but all have the same error message - any ideas where i'm going wrong?
Basically, I would like to launch Angry Birds and other apps/games from XBMC
Many thanks

Please, post the content of your launchers.xml file using pasetbin service.
I haven't even got Advanced Launcher installed as yet - still stuck on the create shortcut part in Windows!

Oups... OK. So... I don't think it will be possible. Maybe you will found a way to do it here :

Sorry to not be able to help you more. I do not have the Angry Bird game. And, even I'm not anymore a Windows user....
