You're correct. I do not use every aspect of this script cause I cannot guarantee it will always work. If I rely on scripts for everything then things are gonna break on a regular basis due to a number of factors beyond my control i.e. API changes, script updates, lack of script updates, and/or even feature removals.
I may add things that are nice to have but will always do my best to use skin engine over scripts whenever possible and if it is not possible try to at least be real picky about what to use to minimize any issues in the first place
I just want things to work without sending users to update this or that when >90% of them just want to play their media without any issues.

Guys, its an issue since since 17.4.
For people experiencing issues with Extended info script on Android/ATV with v17.4 :
Download & install script.module.pil from
here
(I did not make any changes, I simply extracted it from the 17.3.apk)
For me it fixed the issue on android but I do not own any Apple stuff so if someone with an ATV4 could try & confirm please?

Didn't work
I was running 17.3 on my ShieldTV just fine. It upgraded to 17.4 and ExtendedInfo stopped working.

kodi 7.3 is also running great on my Shield TV. No need for me to upgrade at the moment.
1) Backup your kodi using the Backup add-on. make sure you have all the boxes ticked shown below
2) Uninstall kodi 7.4
3) Turn off auto update in the google store
4) Install kodi 7.3
5) Restore kodi using Backup
