Which platform/OS are you on?

Linux. The update to the add-on fixed this for me. Thanks for the help, all that are due it.

If you are on Linux you should definitely get Inputstream Adaptive and switch to DASH.
Confirm working on OSMC/R-Pi.

Thanks!!!!!!

It is a tiny change which makes live HLS more similar to catchup HLS (but still different). This broke the functionality in the add-on. Users on Kodi 19 need not worry, nothing has happened there.

Possible solutions:
  1. If Inputstream Adaptive is available for your platform, please install it and then switch to DASH as stream protocol in the add-on settings. DASH does give you superior quality, in particular HD streams, while HLS is limited to SD. This should always be the preferred option.
  2. If you cannot change to DASH, please try the beta release on Github if it solves your issues. Please report back if it does or does not.
In general I highly recommend to update to Kodi 19 as soon as possible. The code base for 19 is much cleaner because of the removal of HLS streams from the add-on. In the mid term (most likely by the end of the year) support for Kodi 18 and older will be discontinued for this add-on.

Ok ... my plugin was configured for HLS. I checked to see if DASH was available, it is. Version 2.4.6
Switched to DASH

Now when I try to play a livestream it looks like it is going to work, rotating arrow, screen background goes black ... several seconds pass ... and back to the menu with no indication of any error.
@PhiipPeake, sorry if you know this already, but I thought of this when I read your post. Have you set up your min and max bandwidth settings in Inputstream Adaptive? It won't work unless you have.

I believe you will need 2.4.7. 2.4.6 contains a bug which affects live streams.

I do have Inputstream Adaptive, but as I said there is no update available from 2.4.5.

Which Linux distro are you using, and which source for Kodi (our PPA or a vendor package of some sort?).

Also are you trying to update within Kodi itself, or at the OS level via apt or whatever?

It's Ubuntu, but I'm updating add-ons within Kodi. Kodi itself is from the official Ubuntu package AFAICT.
Try updating with apt in the normal way and see if that helps.

On linux the "special" addons (PVRs and binaries) are installed/updated separately via apt from Kodi.

See Ubuntu binary add-ons (wiki) for details.
DASH used to work for me but for the last couple of months or more I'm seeing the 404 error in the logs when attempting to use DASH for live streams now, HLS works fine but is limited to 540p.  I'm running:

Additionally, I can't play radio streams (i.e. BBC1xtra, etc.) when configured for DASH but it works when set for HLS.  Is all of this related to the older version of InputStream Adaptive that CoreELEC seems to be using here?

Thanks!

Forgot to mention that this is Kodi 18.9 (Leia), running on an ODroid N2.  Kodi (18.9 (18.9.0) Git:002b545e34c4c99eeda866e187324283fb7e1a4a). Platform: Linux ARM 32-bit

I've done that. Now Netflix doesn't work.

Oh, and apparently this version of InputStream Adaptive is "not compatible with this version of kodi" so now it's disabled and can't be re-enabled.

Same here (DASH doesn't work for live with 404 errors in logs, HLS does but SD only) on Ubuntu 18.04. While the OS is still supported it doesn't look like 2.4.7 version of inputstream.adaptive package has been backported for Kodi Leia. I've got version 2.4.6 as per https://launchpad.net/~team-xbmc/+archiv...ter=bionic
@djbloc
the team have advised me they won't be putting 2.4.7 into kodi-old-stable.
I'll build it shortly and host it somewhere (ill update this comment with a link)
