If you had an android device the internal omxplayer is different and can be used to advance frame by frame but all other platforms cannot due to the way the current (non-android) internal player works.

That would explain why I could not find any information on how to do a frame by frame advance. Seems odd that the creators of the Kodi HTC would not implement this most basic of functions within the DVDplayer that they chose to use for playing videos. Perhaps in the future, yes? Thanks for the explanation and confirmation.
How are you today, Mike? I have another question for you. Would you happen to know if your skin is compatible with the Kodi DSPlayer branch?

Just in case you are not familiar with that branch, the support thread is here.

I hope you know the answer to my question, because if your skin is compatible, then I'd have an improved video player with the best skin I've run across. It would be a very nice combination, indeed!
Nevermind. I went ahead and gave it a try myself, and found that your skin is very compatable with the DSPlayer branch. So, I'm off to do a lot of customization again, and I'll end up with a combination I should be happy with. Once again, I applaud your efforts on this skin!
@Mortekai
What is the benefit of the DSPlayer branch?

The player in the "normal" version of Kodi plays everything fine on my system ...

Thankz for short summary.
@mikesilvo164 did you remove the cases from the live backgrounds?

Oops... forgot to mention you have to turn them on now in Skin settings > General > Enable cases for Live background

Thankz for short summary.

The benefit, for me, is not a matter of what the player plays, but rather in how the player plays the video file.

DSPlayer has the advantage of using madVR and LAV filters to split then render the video files. I can have much, much more control of the shaders used, the pre and post processing, the upscaling and downscaling, the audio quality and mixing features, etc, etc.... The most powerful benefit is that in the end, I can use my graphics card to it's fullest potential, taking a lot of strain off the cores in my CPU. Picture quality increases, and CPU overhead decreases....

If perchance I happen across something that DSPlayer won't play ( which has not happened yet, it plays everything I have thrown at it, including x265 files ), there are pre-configured rules and exceptions that enable the branch to fall back to using the stock DVDplayer in Kodi. The community build didn't get rid of the stock DVDplayer, it just added another, much more configurable primary player to it.

It takes about 20 minutes to set DSPlayer up so that it uses madVR and LAV correctly, but well worth the time and effort. There is a great step-by-step tutorial showing how to configure the DSPlayer branch of Kodi using madVR and LAV. And now that I know Mike's excellent skin works with DSPlayer, it's an outstanding combination of features for me!

One caveat here.... DSPlayer will only really shine if you have a mid to high grade graphics card in your Windows system.

Just one man's opinion.......

Now it is my turn for a question Tongue

When using this can you still use the screenshot button? I understand how this all works but am not clear on if it renders the video in place of the standard internal player or does it minimize Kodi and start a new player in its place and then return to Kodi when playback is finished Huh

First, it renders the video in place of the standard internal player within the Kodi environment, not externally. I tried that route of using an external player with stock Kodi, but I did not like it much. Bottom line is that the build has 2 built-in players which internally play the files, the stock DVDplayer which is used as a fallback player, and the DSPlayer (Direct Show Player) which is used as the primary player.

Oh man, now it's my turn to say "Durn it, I forgot to test that part"! /groan on Undecided

I've been so busy setting the DSPlayer up, that I did not even notice, but in short, the answer, sadly, is a resounding "No".

Matter of fact, the new button you provided does not even show up in the playback controls... Bummer! Here I thought everything was green for go.

Well, to be more specific about the interaction of your skin with the DSPlayer build, when the DSPlayer is used to play videos, your new button does not show. However, when the build falls back to using DVDplayer, as in playing some online streaming files, your button is there. But for the majority of the time, the new button has gone AWOL....

FUBAR... Now I'm between a rock and a hard place.... I like the player in DS, but I VERY much like your skin with the added screenshot feature. Seems as if I have a choice to make.

You may not have to make such a sacrificial choice Wink this might be easily fixable... Can you "manually" take a screenshot of the player controls that are visible when content is played using DSPlayer and post it back here. I have an idea but unfortunately you will have to test it for me Wink If you could also send a debug log (wiki) of what happens when you press "m" key or whatever mapped button to bring up the player controls that would also be helpful but I may be able to solve it just from the screenshot... who knows though Cool

Hey, that would be GREAT! Here is a screenshot of the controls in DSPlayer:

I've never posted or even looked at a debug log, I'd have to go do some research on that one...
Seems like I have to learn how to post an image on this forum, also.. Huh

Let me try this again...

You should be able to click on it for a larger view.

Hmmm... Confused... I see the button in your photo on the end Huh

Well, you're not the only one. I'd swear it was not there last night.... Anyways, I just checked again, and you're right, the button is there. One problem tho.. when I click the button, it goes through the motions, including the notification, but the resulting screenshot is a 0 byte, totally blank picture file. Odd, don't you think?
Update: The exact same result happens if I use Control + S, or if I press my PrtScrn button, just a 0 byte output file...

I'll be back in about 10-15 mins. I'm going to do my weekly system backup.
